The Dearborn Industrial Generation (DIG) is a combined natural gas and blast furnace gas fueled power plant located in Dearborn, Michigan adjacent to the Ford Rouge industrial complex. The facility is capable of generating up to 800 MW of electricity and 1.2 million pounds per hour of steam. The plant is comprised of one simple cycle gas turbine, two high-efficiency natural gas combined cycle units with heat recovery steam generators, three blast furnace gas/natural gas boilers and one steam turbine. DIG provides AK Steel, Inc. and Ford Motor Company with steam to serve their heating and processing needs. DIG sells its capacity and energy into the MISO market.
Under general supervision, performs a variety semi-skilled duties and responsibilities involved in the maintenance, repair, service and installation of equipment, machinery and related facilities. Keeps records and prepares reports; and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Perform the tasks common to the classification under supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain and repair mechanical systems and equipment utilizing skills in welding, pipefitting, plumbing, mill righting and machinery
- Maintain a safe work environment through job planning and identification and correction of hazards and adherence to plant safety rules and procedures
- Troubleshoot and isolate mechanical problems; implement corrective actions, as appropriate. Perform basic carpentry work, small engine and tool repair, as required
- Plan and lay out work in accordance with applicable standards and codes. Recommend changes to improve efficiency and/or quality of mechanical operations, as appropriate
- Read and interpret plans, diagrams and specifications. Maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment. Diagnose problems with equipment and determine the best course of action to take
- Provide estimates of time and material required; requisitions, tools and supplies in accordance with established procedures. Prepares and maintains documentation and reports, as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance duties such as cleaning, oiling, and lubricating equipment as assigned. Inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and longevity of machines
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner
- Perform regular safety checks on all equipment and keep accurate records of all maintenance performed on each machine. Repair or replace defective parts on equipment as needed
- Manage inventory of spare parts and order new parts as needed
- Recommend changes to improve efficiency and/or quality of mechanical operations, as appropriate
- Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Organization skills and attentiveness to detail
- Interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors
- Demonstrates skill to perform basic welding and cutting
- Demonstrates ability to read and understand mechanical piping drawings, equipment assembly drawings, technical manuals and blueprints
- Sound problem-solving skills
- Possess rudimentary knowledge of equipment repair
- Capable of using analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within the prescribed limitations
- Working knowledge of general maintenance equipment and tools
- Ability to work a flexible schedule around plant needs and willingness to help wherever it is needed.
- Ability to work in extreme heights and/or use JLG/Scissor Lifts
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- 2+ years of relevant experience is required
- Completion of an apprenticeship is preferred
- Valid driver's license is required
