Location: This position is onsite at JH Campbell TC (Lakeshore Administrative Building) located in West Olive, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify) *Other locations may be considered

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

 

The Principal Commissioning Analyst applies a very intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering/commissioning principles and practices in very broad areas of assignments and related fields; makes complex decisions independently on engineering/commissioning problems and methods; and represents the organization in meetings to resolve highly complex questions. Requires the use of highly advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Read and understand highly complex electrical and mechanical prints including wiring diagrams, schematics and P&ID’s and updating them to reflect the “As Built” condition
  • Become familiar with plans and specifications, procedures and related material for each project and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects
  • Responsible for guiding exempt, non-exempt employees and/or technical work groups performing checkout and startup on newly or modified existing equipment and systems
  • Oversee the coordination of training for newly installed equipment
  • Mentor employees and oversee the work of project teams
  • Oversee the testing/commissioning planning, implementation, quality control, scheduling and budgeting, and status reporting on a given construction project or group of projects ensuring standard practices are utilized
  • Responsible for precisely defining the scope of the testing and commissioning; preparing the testing and commissioning schedule, updating that schedule as it evolves and communicating progression to management
  • Active role in developing schedule with a moderate to large budgetary responsibility or impact (in both size and scope) for all assigned projects identifying and minimizing potential risks to the timeline and budget
  • Coordinate equipment going online with plant resources and schedule all vendor supported startup of newly or modified equipment
  • Develop highly complex design validation and Project turnover packages for EPM Projects for mechanical and electrical equipment, electronic devices, tools, plants, facilities and systems while applying the principles of motion, energy, force, and materials
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • Application of utility business model
  • Skilled in coaching/guiding others to achieve goals
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of various Microsoft applications to assisted with preparing commissioning management documents and to assist in design
  • Excellent communication skills that utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise
  • Ability to independently evaluate, select & apply engineering/commissioning theory to solve complex problems
  • Knowledge in utility operations and application of utility trends
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong understanding of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation and controls
  • Knowledge of testing standards (IEEE, NETA, etc.), methods and the application thereof
  • Skilled in issue resolution

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific or technical field with 7 years of experience in the following areas: Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, etc.; Performing or managing instrument and mechanical component level testing, Performing or managing electrical component level testing on cables (LV,MV, HV), transformers, motors, pumps, valves, dampers, switchgear, MCC, system protection devices such as voltage transformers, current transformers, electromechanical, digital, and solid state relays, etc.; experience programming, and/or testing I&C systems such as DCS, PLC, and/or SCADA systems; Performing or managing proof testing or system acceptance testing, experience developing and managing budgets, schedules, preparation of Commissioning plans, test plans or packages, and test program

 

  • [OR] Associate's in a scientific or technical field with 9 years of experience in the following areas: Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, etc.; Performing or managing instrument and mechanical component level testing, Performing or managing electrical component level testing on cables (LV,MV, HV), transformers, motors, pumps, valves, dampers, switchgear, MCC, system protection devices such as voltage transformers, current transformers, electromechanical, digital, and solid state relays, etc.; experience programming, and/or testing I&C systems such as DCS, PLC, and/or SCADA systems; Performing or managing proof testing or system acceptance testing, experience developing and managing budgets, schedules, preparation of Commissioning plans, test plans or packages, and test program
