Location: This position is onsite at the Royal Oak Service Center located in Royal Oak, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

 

The Supervisor Gas Distribution leads a team across multiple areas responsible for safe and efficient operations of the distribution natural gas system infrastructure, i.e. distribution mains and services. The incumbent will provide guidance on low complexity escalated items concerning gas related incidents or coworker engagements. Support and lead projects, safety actions, lean initiatives, strategic planning, and emergent situations. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide direction and guidance on gas distribution policies and procedures including emergency leak response, ruptured/damaged gas lines, main/service maintenance, gas line replacements, standard adherence etc. Lead cross-functional team(s) in development and approval of gas procedures, operations manual edits, project designs, and scope approvals
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, providing leadership during after hours, weekends, and Holidays. Serve in the appropriate Incident Command System (ICS) role, such as On-Scene Commander or ICS Section Chief. Implement emergency response plans as needed within the ICS and complete required regulatory reporting. Participate/Develop scenario-based training and incident action plans for large-scale utility emergencies to ensure safety, incident stabilization, and resolution
  • Coach team on Lean methodologies; integrate/develop visual management, operating reviews, problem solving, standard work development, and waste elimination to improve operational excellence/performance. Lead and support local cross-functional team(s) and coworkers through strategic change initiatives
  • Ensure team are supported and completing safety focused actions. Provide guidance on low complexity escalated safety issues, participate/lead safety follow-up activities/Root Cause Analysis (RCA's), conduct/observe field visits. Analyze safety trend data and utilizes problem solving tools to create safety plans and countermeasures across multiple headquarters
  • Lead, develop, and coach a team to achieve departmental goals and expectations. Ensure accountability by utilizing analytical tools such as key performance indicators (KPI) and monitoring job performance
  • Lead, organize, and support large-scale construction, compliance, and maintenance projects/activities in assigned areas. Ensure adherence to planned milestones, ensure first time quality performance, manage plan changes and risk associated with assigned areas. Interface with customers, contractors, and other utilities as projects progress
  • Coach team to operate within the guidelines of the union contract. Serve as hearing officer in grievances and maintain an effective working relationship with local Union leadership and Labor Relations. Support the contract negotiation process
  • Support budget monitoring of actual performance versus forecast by reviewing units, hours, and reasonable expectancies (RE). Implement financial countermeasures in support of budget reconciliation and proper charging
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technical or related field with 2 years of related natural gas system, or leadership experience

 

  • [OR] Associate's Degree in Business, Technical or related field with 4 years of related natural gas system, or leadership experience

 

  • [OR] High School Diploma with 6 years of related natural gas system, or leadership experience

Physical Demands

  • This role is regulated under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). This regulation covers functions in pipeline operations, pipeline maintenance or pipeline emergency-response. Employees in this role will be subject to random drug testing in accordance with the regulations set forth by the PHMSA.
