Maintenance Supervisor (New Bern, North Carolina) - CMS Enterprises

The Senior Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the maintenance and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and instrument and control systems to ensure continuous plant operations.  In addition, in this role, you will communicate objectives, participate in the selection of personnel, and train and evaluate assigned personnel in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.

 

This position reports to the Plant Manager at the Craven County Wood Energy Plant located in New Bern, North Carolina.

 

Job Responsibilities

Functional:

  • Establish and maintain the preventative maintenance schedule; schedule activities and personnel in accordance with approved schedule.
  • Ensure the repair of all electrical, mechanical, and instrument and control equipment.
  • Organize and assign work within the department to optimize the skills of personnel and meet departmental objectives.
  • Provide for emergency/temporary repairs as needed; plan and schedule permanent repairs.
  • Coordinate and inspect the work of outside contractors, as necessary.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of parts, tools, and equipment; order parts as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to other departments and assist in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Ensure the cleaning and maintenance of plant facilities and grounds.
  • Ensure the maintenance of preventative and repair records and logs.
  • Provide input to the plant’s operating budget relative to maintenance activities and monitor budget variances.
  • Recommend improvements and upgrading of equipment, as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with contractors and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain professional competence in electrical and mechanical systems, maintenance and applicable codes.

 

Supervisory:

  • Participate in the selection process, and assignment of responsibilities of all maintenance personnel.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Train personnel in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.
  • Prepare appropriate reports, recommendations and maintain documentation as required.

 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • High school diploma OR GED.
  • Associates degree in electrical or mechanical related area or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years industry related experience.

  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity Requirements including Color, Depth Perception, & Field of Vision.
  • Machine Operator (including inspection) - This is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

 

CONDITIONS THE WORKER WILL BE SUBJECT TO IN THIS POSITION

  • Inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
    • The worker is required to wear personal protective equipment
  • Outside environmental conditions: Minimal protection from weather conditions and temperature changes.
  • Extreme heat: Temperature above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour during a work shift.
  • Extreme cold: Temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour during a work shift.
  • Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
  • Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
  • Prolonged, irregular working hours.
