This is a hybrid (work from home/onsite) position.  Candidate must live or be willing to relocate within 60 miles of Consumers Energy Service Center.  This position will cover the Hamilton and Hastings Service Center.

 

Department Summary

 

The LVD Engineering and Design department produces quality, expert and efficient design services within scope and on-time to internal and external clients, to provide safe and reliable electric service to our customers.

 

The LVD Engineering and Design team at Consumers Energy is seeking qualified candidates to lead distribution design efforts throughout the state's service territories. The chosen candidate will maintain responsibility for and lead a group of talented engineers and system designers that architect electric distribution line infrastructure to enhance and expand our grid system.

 

Job Description/Responsibilities

 

Core responsibilities of the position include:

  • Lead a team of up to 15 distribution design employees (multi-headquarter locations) performing Distribution Design functions relating to both system enhancements (Capacity and Reliability) and new business. This can include field review and customer interaction.
  • Process involvement on design practices with key stakeholders (Construction, Scheduling, Supply Chain)
  • Review and approve designs for technical accuracy (first time quality)
  • Interdepartmental collaboration with High Voltage Distribution Planning and Engineering, Low Voltage Distribution Planning, Customer Energy Management (new business), Forestry, Right of Way, Planning and Scheduling, Distribution Standards and Materials
  • Balance and oversight of regional workload, date and project management, employee staffing and contractor support
  • Involvement in continuous improvement initiatives and opportunities to increase efficiencies and productivity through process improvement
  • Research and test validation of forward-looking engineering products and services
  • Storm Assistance through Damage Assessment and resource coordination for major events

 

Requirements/Qualifications

 

  • 8 + years of related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field (OR) Associate's degree in a scientific/technical field with 10+ years of related work experience (OR) 12+ years of related work experience without a degree.

  • Self-Starter, Organized, Meticulous

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced Engineering, MBA, or PE designation preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards and Code Requirements
  • Previous SAP experience
  • Project Management Experience
  • R&D practice
