The Business Internship Program is geared towards current college students who are earning a business degree or other related field that aligns with the skill sets included in this job description.  We are also looking for those who have a passion for learning the inside workings of a large utility company within the energy industry.  The Business Internship Program at Consumers Energy has core principles in place to challenge the intern and practically apply theories learned in their educational journey.  

 

What you will do: 

Current college students of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and development for various supply chain aspects of our business.  This could include work in; project management, emergency management, finance, human resources, strategy, governance and compliance, supplier diversity, inventory and sourcing analytics, supplier performance, supplier control, issue resolution, warehousing and more all while helping create a better tomorrow for the communities we serve! 

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting does not represent a specific position and is posted for the purpose of collecting resumes for students interested in an internship opportunity with Consumers Energy. Opportunities could include summer 2023 Internships, fall or spring co-op, part-time year-round co-op, etc.

We encourage you to apply if you possess the following: 

Enrolled and actively pursuing an associates or bachelor's degree in business from an accredited university as a student.  A successful candidate should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Knowledge in the Incident Command System (ICS)

This role may require reporting to an assigned headquarter on occasion.  Leaders will discuss the work arrangements which best fit the nature of the work along with overall business needs.

Essential Functions 

In addition to working alongside full time employees carrying out the various business related functions for Consumers Energy, Business Program Interns will have the option to participate in a number of additional optional events within the program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked philanthropic event, the Intern Challenge. 

 

Hours and Travel 

This position requires the individual to typically work 40 hours per week with 85% of the time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location.  Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities. The individual should be willing to participate in the on-call rotation in case of potential storms. Individuals may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays and Individuals must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to stand and walk for periods of up to and beyond eight hours in all kinds of weather; snow, mud, dirt water, ice, etc.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.   The employee must frequently lift and move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds.  The recommended maximum weight for employees to lift without the aid of other employees or a lifting device is 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud.  Individual must have the ability to work up to 16 continuous hours during emergent work.
