Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Business Process & Technology Architect participates in Information Technology Governance activities, innovation initiatives, strategic planning, and continuous process improvement efforts across the enterprise. Responsibilities include organizing, leading, and facilitating cross–business-unit requirements gathering, process design, process improvement, and re‑engineering initiatives, often involving end‑to‑end analysis and future‑state redesign.

The incumbent must possess a solid understanding of the scope of IT Governance, its services, and products, and will review associated technical and process operations to identify opportunities for optimization. The role performs data analysis, technical evaluations, and risk and performance reporting across asset, vendor, risk, and program lifecycle data, as well as architectural services. This position leads and supports efforts to enhance data quality, improve technical operations, optimize cost and processes, strengthen planning and stakeholder collaboration, and drive continuous improvement.

Additional responsibilities include supporting document lifecycle and retention management, overseeing team sites and document libraries, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams using effective communication and change‑management practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a variety of charts and diagrams to depict current and future state processes.
  • Serve as a Change Agent, actively managing initiatives throughout the change lifecycle and addressing challenges using creative and strategic approaches.
  • Apply strong leadership and influence to guide teams and achieve sprint, project, and organizational goals.
  • Develop systems and architectural diagrams, workflows, and technical process flows.
  • Apply expertise in process management, project management, and performance management to optimize product and service lifecycles.
  • Conduct multiple asset, process, technical, and data analyses to identify opportunities for improvement, rationalization, and operational excellence, providing justification for recommended enhancements.
  • Perform standard and complex analytical and problem‑solving activities to automate and optimize systems and processes.
  • Use negotiation, influence, and consulting skills to foster genuine collaboration and drive results. Plan and facilitate stakeholder engagement to improve cost efficiency and service quality.
  • Deliver executive‑level presentations containing factual, high‑quality analysis to support recommendations, options, and logical conclusions.
  • Support and maintain document lifecycle and retention processes, including management of SharePoint, Teams, Enlighta, and related team sites/libraries for IT Vendor and Asset Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain multiple OEM Distributed Control Systems (DCS), EDS systems/servers, and plant energy management systems, including alarms and historian data points; requires scripting and automation knowledge (Python, C, C+, or platform‑specific languages). May support or lead DCS integration and upgrade initiatives across multiple control systems and facilities.
  • Support and review the architecture of control networks, including IP schemes and data link configuration across vendor systems and devices.
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, root‑cause analysis, alarm management, and configuration updates to ensure real‑time operational performance of DCS systems, which may include minor operator dashboard modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity frameworks such as NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and FERC Standards of Conduct (SOC) in partnership with IT security.
  • Identify, scope, and serve as a subject‑matter expert on projects requiring cross‑functional collaboration; develop architecture for system upgrades and improvements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Control Systems Engineers to support skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Conduct asset health evaluations, OTAM inventories, and serve as a senior liaison with power control, MOC, plant energy management OEMs, and OT teams.
  • Participate in commissioning activities for new equipment or system enhancements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the IT Vendor Management Lifecycle and the Asset Lifecycle for hardware, software, services, and telecom.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Power BI, Azure, and Azure DevOps (ADO).
  • Proficiency with ServiceNow and SNOW.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and implementation.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related business field, with four (4) or more years of experience developing test plans, test cases, conducting user testing, and supporting implementation readiness. Must demonstrate experience in process and systems optimization and use of standard illustration tools. Must understand general risk principles and support risk and compliance reporting, including risk mitigation and evaluation.
