Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Manager, Project Controls oversees the operation of various Project Controls functions, including Cost Management, Estimating, and Scheduling. This role ensures the delivery of accurate and reliable data and analysis to improve project predictability, flexibility, transparency, and competitiveness. The Manager maintains quality through documented standard work and processes and provides support to Project Management and leadership by identifying risks and opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute initiatives focused on problem-solving, waste elimination, and increasing employee engagement within Project Controls.
  • Support highly cross-functional improvement efforts and participate in operating reviews.
  • Lead continuous improvement strategies for Project Controls methodologies to optimize forecasting and execution predictability.
  • Measure the effectiveness of existing processes and apply problem-solving techniques to develop sustainable, quantifiable improvements.
  • Manage highly skilled teams responsible for planning and executing project and program estimates, budgets, forecasts, and schedules to ensure delivery within cost and schedule targets.
  • Communicate and apply Project Controls strategic objectives and assist in implementing plans to achieve annual BPD goals, ensuring successful delivery of functional disciplines.
  • Develop standard work and metrics to monitor team performance, address gaps, and implement mitigation plans for off-target goals.
  • Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and coaching to Project Controls teams; assess competencies and foster growth and development.
  • Promote strategic thinking, cultural alignment, safety, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within the team.
  • Ensure all projects and programs under supervision comply with cost and schedule standards and governance, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge and experience in project cost, scheduling, and estimating disciplines.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, planning, and prioritization skills with the ability to quickly assimilate information and determine an optimized path forward.
  • Proficiency in supporting and managing robust project management frameworks and governance for lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong rapport and credibility with business partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven success in collaboration and influencing others.
  • Skilled in strategy development, work plan creation, and results-oriented execution with accountability for outcomes.
  • Analytical problem-solving ability and experience managing escalations and risk mitigation strategies.

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with Primavera P6.
  • Basic knowledge of project scheduling principles and schedule quality standards.
  • Basic understanding of automated reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business, with four (4) or more years of experience managing teams and proven expertise in project cost controls, schedule management, estimating, or similar areas, along with thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting finance, cost strategies, and construction contracts.
    • [OR] Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business, with six (6) or more years of relevant experience as described above.
    • [OR] High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of relevant experience as described above.

Preferred Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working with Primavera P6
