Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Material Planner is responsible for demand management and inventory planning, ensuring that material is available at specific locations to meet workplan requirements. The Material Planner manages inventory, schedules goods movements, and coordinates the flow of materials to meet emergent and planned demand. This role is responsible for the shipment and logistics of inventory to meet material availability metrics. The Material Planner ensures accurate information in the planning systems supporting usage history, inventory records and financial requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities using data analytics to establish and guide supply chain best practices. Drives decision making in cross-functional situations using basic data analysis.
  • Ensures target levels of material availability for planned work and emergent work through direct collaboration with business partners to achieve a comprehensive material plan. Identify and contribute to problem resolution when aggregated inventory levels are not achieving business plan objectives.
  • Utilize Lean methods to determine root cause of material risk and apply immediate counter measures to mitigate risk.
  • Maintains front line records that drives data accuracy (i.e. Invoicing, Goods Receipts, Inventories, Goods Movements, Storm, etc.) within the Enterprise Planning System (EPS) system of record. Works with Business Partners to continuously improve standard practices.
  • Works cross-functionally with supply chain partners, as well as Operations and Engineering business partners to analyze risk and ensure material has been allocated for planned and emergent work. Communicates material status and risk and works cross functionally to mitigate risk.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • SAP knowledge.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders, customers and external providers.
  • Communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to be persuasive and build credibility internally and externally.
  • Advanced project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite, with advanced capabilities in Excel.
  • Ability to think clearly and make logical connections; analyze available facts & observations to form a plan.
  • Understanding of end to end supply chain, and business processes.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain or related field with 2 years of experience in supply chain methods, understanding inventory and data analytics [OR]
  • Associate's degree in business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain or related field with 4 years of experience in supply chain methods, understanding inventory and data analytics [OR]
  • High School Diploma or GED with 6 years of experience in supply chain methods, understanding inventory and data analytics.
