This position has opportunities to work in a virtual/onsite hybrid work environment.  Consumers Energy has facilities all around the state of Michigan (Lower Peninsula only).  Candidate must be located within 30 miles of a Consumers Energy Service Center OR willing to relocate.


General Summary


The Technical Analyst belongs to the MISO Settlements group, which is part of the EGI Contracts and Settlements department in Electric Supply. This department is responsible for validating and communicating the settlement of Consumers Energy’s Market and Transmission transactions with Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO). On an annual basis the Company sells approximately 36 million MWh of electricity with a value of $1.1 billion and purchases approximately 54 million MWh of electricity with a value of $1.6 billion plus transmission service and other services valued at $400 million from MISO.


Job Duties/Responsibilities


The Technical Analyst performs complex analytical, technical and administrative tasks. The scope of responsibility requires individual initiative to assimilate data from various sources and factor processes into decisions. The challenge of this position is to analyze and validate the MISO Settlements meter data and provide timely reporting to MISO, Operations, and General Accounting. Analysis includes, but is not limited to Wholesale Metering systems, MISO Settlement data, Consumers Energy’s wholesale electricity related contracts, Accounting data, PSCR, FERC, operational analysis, and software system troubleshooting. The successful candidate would need to perform (at a minimum) the following activities:

  • Maintain and update PCI Energy Accounting system
  • Manage the tracking, reporting and reconciliation of CE and LBA MISO Assets
  • Develop and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services reports for MISO Settlements      
  • Participate in audits by assembling and supplying the required data
  • Prepare data reports to be filed with various governmental agencies regarding EGI Contracts and Settlements department activities.
  • Prepare reports on request to support Electric Supply work process.

In addition, this position will provide support and back-up for others within the Electric Supply organization




  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (IT), business or related area.
    • HS Degree or GED with equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 1+ years of related experience

Essential Functions


The Technical Analyst performs increasingly more complex analytical or administrative tasks requiring the application of advanced knowledge, skills and creative insights in order to successfully complete the assignment. The tasks involve application of established standards and procedures, and may involve researching, recommending and implementing changes to department procedures and or processes. The work is varied and complex in nature, applying skills such as analysis, planning, coding and design, research, budget monitoring, coordination, facilitation, and communication with customers or outside agencies.


The Technical Analyst operates with substantial latitude for action or decision making and often involves matters which may have a major bearing on the Company’s business. The Technical Analyst will often lead projects or be designated as the Senior Management representative on corporate initiatives. The Technical Analyst may have supervisory responsibility for non-exempt and/or exempt employees or be an individual contributor. They have a high level of understanding of the processes and have earned the respect of department peers as well as counterparts outside the department and/or company.


Hours and Travel


This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with the potential for remote work. This position may occasionally include nights and weekend/holiday timeframes.
