The Technical Trainer position will be responsible for delivering instruction to Consumer Energy Electric Operations workers. You will actively participate in classroom instruction as well as observing hands on activities being performed within the Marshall Training Center facilities. This position plays a key role in maintaining consistency in training in accordance with Consumers Energy practices, procedures, and policies.


  • Conduct training in accordance with Consumers Energy Operations Standards and Procedures and be a business support resource.
  • Revise course materials to ensure they are current to company standards and enhance the learning experience.
  • Work extensively with company and union instructors to assist in becoming an effective instructor.
  • Work with Temporary Union Instructors (known as TUI’S) as they assist with the hands-on training out in the training yard.
  • Manage multiple work assignments, perform training by classroom delivery (technology assisted), and hands on field work.
  • Coordinate with L&D subject matter specialists and their supervisors to schedule and instruct courses in accordance with the needs of the business.
  • Partner with Joint Apprentice Committee and instructional design staff to update and implement changes in course material.


  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of study.  Demonstrated results in classroom delivery.  Special registration or Licensing may be required in certain fields.  Less than a bachelor’s degree may be acceptable if accompanied by extensive industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
  • 5+ year's of experience
  • Must have great communication skill, with the ability to listen and build trust within the training environment.
  • Possess excellent preparation and organizational skills with a strong work ethic.     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a journeyman line worker.
  • Experience as a vocational/trades instructor with extensive experience in the electrical trades industry 
  • Demonstrated results in classroom delivery/presentation.
