Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Lansing service center located in Lansing, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Corrosion Technician leads the cathodic protection system testing and evaluation, including pipe to soil testing, troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems, installation of UT and/ or corrosion coupon sensors, and remedial measure determination. The incumbent will test cathodic protection adequacy, perform internal corrosion testing and sampling, perform in-hole pipe inspections, determine appropriate remedial actions, perform or oversee repairs, document remedial actions and results. Responsible for entry and maintenance of complex data in corrosion database(s) and GIS. Documentation of work includes mapping and communication of necessary repairs as well as recording results for future review by others within System Integrity program and/or MPSC.

 

This role also supports emerging technologies and application enhancements to optimize operational processes within Distribution Integrity Management Program (Corrosion Management). While corrosion knowledge is important, the primary focus is on enabling digital innovation through platforms such as PCS, GIS, Power Platform, and SAP. The position includes project validation, regulatory support, system troubleshooting, and vendor coordination— ensuring regulatory compliance while minimizing waste and manual effort through scalable automation and system integration.

 

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Lead annual and bi-monthly Surveys
  • Lead the installation of complex cathodic protection system groundbeds and/or the installation of corrosion monitoring equipment
  • Inspect field construction work and assist with new construction of gas facilities
  • Maintain complex data, records and documentation
  • Lead troubleshooting and design of remedial measures. Examples include working with other companies to resolve interference issues and in-hole testing.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
  • Support emerging technologies and application enhancements—including User Acceptance Testing (UAT)—to drive process optimization, regulatory updates, cost reduction, and waste elimination through digital innovation. Applications may include, but are not limited to: PCS (Mesa Tablets/Survey Manager), GIS, Power Platform (PowerApps, Power BI), ProjectWise, and SAP.
  • Validate project deliverables (e.g., Utility Network implementations) by confirming alignment with the definition of done, stakeholder input, acceptance criteria, and project risk considerations to ensure value readiness.
  • Perform provisioning and deprovisioning tasks for DIMP (Distribution Integrity Management Program) applications, including ownership of Active Directory (AD) groups.
  • Support internal and external audits related to DIMP applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues to maintain compliance and continuity.
  • Build and manage vendor relationships to support system performance and delivery.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Understanding of corrosion control and cathodic protection methods and monitoring
  • Ability to work with and understand electricity and electrical test equipment and components
  • Understanding of Rectifier and Groundbed installations, including wiring of AC services, groundbed material and requirements and proper splicing methods
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, Corrosion database and GIS system
  • Good leadership, communication and time management skills
  • Understanding UT and other non-destructive testing methods
  • Proficient in MS Office, with aptitude for learning new software
  • Organization skills and attention to detail

Education & Experience

  • Associate Degree in in a scientific/technical field and 4 years experience in Cathodic, Corrosion testing and troubleshooting 
  • [OR] High School Diploma/GED and 6 years experience in Cathodic, Corrosion testing and troubleshooting
