General Summary

 

The Fleet Field Leader oversees the day to day Fleet Maintenance Operations. Local Fleet Operations is responsible for managing and maintaining up to 600 CE Fleet assets within their designated zone. This position requires a full understanding of the utility business and applicable work methods for Gas, Electric, Generation and all support operations. These skills are required to ensure a safe and reliable Fleet for all asset operators. This position will be engaged with local client leadership and asset operators by bringing functional and technical expertise to drive business solutions utilizing the CE Way removing waste, tracking performance, and solving problems. This position interacts with the area management, local field leadership and outside contractors to deliver world class performance with hometown service. The position requires an ever-expanding knowledge of customer needs, business processes and problem-solving skills as the local subject matter expert for all vehicle and equipment needs. A functional requirement of this role will include building strong customer service relationships with Gas, Electric and Support Operations that will promote employee safety, productivity, and a regulatory compliant fleet. In addition to functional skills, this position requires a vast technical and mechanical knowledge base that results in the ability to make well thought out and precise decisions. This position is responsible for a $3.6M+ budget and directs a diverse team of up to 1 Scheduler and 13 Mechanics (OM&C).

 

Job Description and Responsibilities

 

  • Standard work associated with this position would be to review daily safety and productivity data in preparation for the daily operating reviews and to compile weekly performance for the weekly operating reviews.
  • Conduct regular Go and See reviews in all staffed garages, complete safety observations and work with the mechanics to review performance through visual management. 
  • Monitor quality, cost and delivery through outside services tracking, weekly workload forecasting and developing corrective actions to ensure vehicle availability.
  • Daily activities in support of balancing quality, cost, and delivery would include recording contractor invoices in SharePoint, reviewing work orders for task and parts accuracy, collaborating with schedulers and mechanics to prioritize work to minimize impact on operations, attending operations crew meetings to address vehicle and equipment concerns, interacting with all team members across the zone, on all shifts so that potential issues are recognized before they become impactful to the business.
  • They also need to understand and execute operations within the guidelines of the working agreement, order and receive repair parts to assist in the timely return to service of vehicles, trailers and equipment and to make themselves available on all shifts, 7 days per week to address any problems that may arise.
  • In addition to the daily workload, Fleet Field Leaders collaborate with Fleet Management regarding the Fleet Purchase Plan, Bulletin development, regulatory and compliance guidelines, metric development, and various Fleet related projects that are outside of the normal scope of work.
  • Accountable for managing and maintaining the safety, functionality, and reliability of up to 600 Fleet assets within their assigned zone.
  • Manage all financial elements ($3.6M +/-) of local Fleet operations including: Labor, Materials, Supplies, Overtime, Outside Contractor Costs, Fuel, Business Expenses, etc.
  • Ensure all vehicles, trailers and equipment are legally/ regulatory compliant and safe to drive/ operate in the field accordance with FMCSR, OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Daily collaboration with schedulers, mechanics, and operators to review safety, productivity, and performance.
  • Technical and mechanical knowledge to help lead the decision-making process to ensure daily decisions are made in balance of Quality Cost and Delivery.

  • Assists with initiatives internally and externally to improve operator safety, standardize fleet specifications, lower total cost of ownership and increase unit availability.
  • Partners with Fleet Technical and Regulatory Manager to implement the business continuity plan when catastrophic failures arise.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts both in state and mutual assistance out of state.
  • Lead the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy within the zone.
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • 5 years or greater experience in managing all aspects of performance and vehicle maintenance; including safety, goals, adherence to standards and guidelines, employee development and productivity.
  • Conflict resolution skills and understanding of the working agreement
  • Strong leadership, communication, teaming and partnering skills.
  • Understanding of safety and health regulations, legal and regulatory policies and maintenance standards related to the fleet industry
  • Understanding of data analytics, computer-based skills, scheduling knowledge, contract administration and metric adherence.

 

Requirements/Qualifications

 

5+ years of fleet management experience- OR-

Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or Automotive Technology

Leadership experience is required
