The General Engineer I position is eligible for remote work or can be based in our Michigan locations. The successful candidate will need to be able to attend in person meetings at the Parnall office in Jackson as needed.




The Mechanical Design department in support of the Metering, Regulation, and Controls (MR&C) department is seeking a Programming Engineering Technical Analyst/Engineer to support the configuration of 3D CAD software including maintaining cell libraries, material descriptions, and upholding our CAD Standards for Transmission and Distribution gas assets. This positionwill also be cross trained to support Mechanical Design record management. Additional coordination and standardization support are required to ensure consistent quality among various design groups. Created processes will require thorough documentation for future development and instruction for use. The Programing Analyst will provide support in coordination and validation of project completeness for natural gas projects through Bentley OpenPlant and ProjectWise.



  • Develop and configure Bentley OpenPlant for mechanical design team to effectively utilize the CAD software for producing 3D designs.  This includes implementing levels, specialized components, creation of fabrication drawings, custom reports – bill of material generation, etc. within the context of the CAD toolset.
  • Develop and provide training on OpenPlant 2D and 3D design software for designers in virtual environment, and potentially in person. This training can include full time technicians, contractors, and interns. 
  • Maintain, collect, and apply feedback for continuous improvement. Document configuration, operation, and set up of engineering design systems.
  • Perform drawing document management and drawing record completeness. 
  • Cross-train to support coordination with MR&C Electrical Instrumentation & Controls, pipeline, measurement and other natural gas departments projects for mechanical design. 
  • Ensure designers adhere to MR&C standards for work




This position may be filled as a General Engineer I or General Engineering Technical Analyst I based on the following qualifications:


  • General Engineer I: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university, and a minimum of two (2) years of applied engineering working experience
  • General Engineering Technical Analyst I: Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field, and two (2) or more years of exempt experience in the specific field. (OR) An Associate's degree in a scientific/technical field with five (5) years of experience in the specific field (OR) ten (10) years Company or industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.




  • CAD experience both 2D and 3D; preferably Bentley products MicroStation V8i, OpenPlant           
  • Familiarity with coding languages like HTML, C#, VBA, Python     
  • Document Management systems - Bentley ProjectWise
  • Technical Writing Skills  




This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings as needed.
