Department Summary

Position will be responsible for direct environmental support of our business partners by providing a single point of contact for environmental needs.  The purpose of this role is to further reduce environmental compliance risk and increase outreach and availability to our business partners in the Generation Operations organization.The position requires significant knowledge of environmental regulations along with utility experience.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure regular communication with business partners through a variety of mechanisms including , but not limited to, attending staff meetings, project meetings, and cross-functional team meetings
  • Working closely with Environmental Services Program Managers and Subject Matter Experts to ensure compliance and mitigate risk at site(s) under SPOC responsibility
  • Conducting regular field visits, self-assessments and participating in audits
  • Consulting with project managers, project engineers and/or designers with  planning activities to establish environmental controls for larger projects, including review of Environmental Review Checklists (ERCs)
  • Conducting or coordinating site-specific training for business partners on environmental programs
  • Responding to environmental incidents and events, regulatory concerns and assisting business partners in resolution
  • Assisting with data collection and regulatory reporting for business partners

  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and respond to emergent issues that result can result in rapidly changing day to day priorities
  • Ability to successfully work with operational business partners, Plant management, SMEs, and State and Federal regulators at a variety of levels and in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with business partners with varying levels of environmental knowledge and experience


Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program OR Bachelor Degree in a technical field (ie, environmental management, resource development, management, fisheries and wildlife or one of the natural science disciplines) will be considered for placement within the Environmental Analyst job family.
  • 5 or more years of exempt work experience

  • Experience and working knowledge with multi-media environmental regulatory compliance, including air quality requirements (strong emphasis), land and water management (such as NPDES, soil erosion and sedimentation controls), and waste management.
  • Strong commitment to improving environmental safety and compliance as well as reducing environmental risk.


Essential Functions

Manage environmental projects and/or tasks in a collaborative setting with multiple disciplines. Preparing environmental and permitting documents in compliance with applicable governing statutes and implementing regulations; providing planning support in the design of major infrastructure projects; and supporting agency involvement, permitting, and public participation activities. Help support generating plant, distribution and other projects in the Company, manage large task assignments and small-scale projects, perform complex environmental analyses and studies, oversee and review work by other staff, contractors, and consultants; also interface with government agencies and the public. Take the lead in preparing NEPA/MEPA documents and permit applications working with senior environmental and project engineering staff. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.


Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week and depending upon individual responsibilities, variable amounts of time split between office-based and field locations.
