Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the SERVICE CENTER located in CITY, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Tax Analyst will prepare and support property, sales and use, and other indirect tax returns; assist with indirect tax audits, systems, internal controls, tax data analysis, and process improvement activities; and support timely and accurate indirect tax compliance and reporting. The Tax Analyst may also assist with accurate accounting, reporting and compliance with tax law including federal, state, and local corporate tax filings. This position will also research tax issues and questions and prepare written analysis and conclusions and respond to business units’ requests for tax information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and support property tax functions, including filing personal property returns, analyzing real and personal property assessments, paying tax bills, calculating monthly accruals, and supporting annual budgets.
  • Prepare and support sales and use tax and other indirect tax functions, including filing returns, reviewing transaction taxability, maintaining tax exemption certificates, reconciling liabilities, and supporting tax payments.
  • Research indirect tax issues for business units and summarize findings and recommended next steps for review.
  • Respond to indirect tax information requests from leadership, business units, and other internal departments.
  • Assist with sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect tax audits by preparing documentation, gathering support, and responding to routine notices from tax authorities.
  • Participate in the operation and enhancement of indirect tax systems and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Post necessary journal entries and run general ledger reports/queries
  • Ensure all tax reports reconcile to accounting records, returns are prepared accurately, and filings are made timely
  • Perform internal control responsibilities related to accounting for income taxes and compliance filings
  • Use critical thinking to investigate and anticipate possible tax and reporting requirements to maximize benefits across the company
  • Communicate effectively with state and federal tax agencies to research and resolve moderate jurisdictional tax notices
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Tax experience gained in public accounting and/or industry with strong understanding of income taxes under US GAAP and US Federal, State and Local income tax compliance
  • Working knowledge of indirect tax laws, deadlines, and reporting requirements
  • Proficient with financial analysis software (i.e., SAP)
  • Proficient with database entry and query software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Alteryx, or similar tools used to organize, review, and analyze indirect tax data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline with two (2) or more years of experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning software
  • (OR) Associate’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline with four (4) or more years of experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning software
  • (OR) High School Diploma/GED with six (6) or more years of experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning software
  • Relevant experience should include exposure to property tax, sales and use tax, excise tax, tax research, or hands-on indirect tax compliance activities.
