Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Office located in Jackson, Michigan. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sr. Energy Market Engineer is responsible for short- and long-term production cost modeling, evaluating and optimizing MISO energy market offer strategies, and energy model performance. In addition, this position evaluates and reports on generation unit performance, energy market performance, and electric supply performance metrics. The Sr. Energy Market Engineer gathers, stores, manages, and processes data from various sources and evaluates datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights. The primary objective of this analysis work is to inform business strategy, develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms, forecast trends, and predict outcomes. This role requires the ability to use and improve sophisticated regression and neural network models, advanced Excel spreadsheet models, and generation unit commitment models.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, maintain, and operate electric supply models in the areas of production costs, economic analysis, and electric supply forecasting.
- Expertise in building, optimizing, and validating complex analytical frameworks, such as regression and neural network models, advanced Excel modeling, and generation unit commitment modeling.
- Monitor, advise on, and implement MISO energy policies to maximize value for customers while assuring compliance.
- Maximize utilization of critical electric supply data software platforms such as PCI, including an in-depth understanding of data parameters, integrating tools into the business by applying MISO market knowledge, and utilizing data to gain business insights and develop market strategies.
- Other non-essential duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge of MISO energy, capacity, and ancillary services markets and settlements.
- Knowledge of ProMod, GenTrader, MetrixIDR, and the PCI software suite.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field with four (4) or more years of experience in data analysis, data modeling, and energy markets.
- (OR) Associate degree with six (6) or more years of experience in data analysis, data modeling, and energy markets.
- (OR) High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of experience in data analysis, data modeling, and energy markets.
