LOCATION
This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position assigned to Parnall Office located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available to those who qualify).
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Principal Energy Market Analyst position may oversee the procurement or scheduling of gas or electricity, negotiating and administering gas supply and pipeline transportation agreements, transmission rights activities and supplier payment activities, transportation rate and tariff analysis, and administration of new supplier contracting and transactional confirmations. This position may oversee Regulatory audits and related support activities, internal control SOX testing, business continuity planning, and may serve as backup to procurement processes in addition to providing various complex ad-hoc analysis to support management decision making. At the highest performance level this position may represent Gas and/or Electric Supply's interest within the MPSC and FERC Regulatory environment as a SME, participate in strategy development, represent the Company/customer interests to external third parties, and or be the SME representing the Company's interests on MISO tariff requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- In support of day ahead and real time merchant Operations, develop energy market purchase and sales tools, products and strategies to reduce price volatility and Power Supply Cost Recovery costs
- Develop tools and guidelines to mitigate cost impacts of planned and unplanned outages
- Develop strategy to optimize how CE bids load into the MISO market
- Build relationships with energy trading entities within MISO and PJM to facilitate short-term transactions
- Subject matter expert in electric transmission offerings and tariff requirements to move power from outside MISO zone 7 and other RTOs
- Understand transmission congestion and consult on transmission impacts of the company’s power supply acquisitions
- Develop strategy to manage congestion costs through Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) or other financial instruments
- Develop ancillary services market offer strategy by unit
- Develop guidelines and process for natural gas hedging
- Monitor and report commodity price trends and forecasts
- Conduct all required activities to enter into agreements with suppliers to provide fuel for the Company’s generation plants, including conducting RFP’s, negotiating contracts, and administering contracts to ensure that all fuel related expenses are prudent
- Act as the Company’s expert witness in the regulatory filings
- Monitor commodity supply and practices, present and future, to develop strategies to ensure a secure, reliable, and reasonably energy for customers
- Oversee the procurement and reporting activities, procuring and scheduling of natural gas and/or electric volumes and high complex issue resolution, pipeline capacity release or transmission reservation activities
- Oversee supplier payment, transactional confirmation, and supply contract administration
- FERC/NAESB/MPSC Regulatory support: analysis, audit, filing
- Oversee the administration of SOX testing, ESO Business Continuity, and Informational Governance workplans, deliverables, and requirements
- Drive pipeline tariff, notifications, and rate review
- Subject matter expert in MISO tariff requirements, transmission scheduling from multiple Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and utilization of Financial Transmission Rights (FTR)
- Oversee implementation of financial strategies to reduce Power Supply Cost Recovery
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent with seven (7) or more years of experience with contract administration, data analysis, computer models, energy markets and costs
- Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent with nine (9) or more years of experience with contract administration, data analysis, computer models, energy markets and costs
- High School Diploma (GED) with eleven (11) or more years of experience with contract administration, data analysis, computer models, energy markets and costs
