Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Service Center located in Jackson, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Network Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and day-to-day operations of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role assists in troubleshooting network issues, deploying hardware and software, and maintaining documentation. The Network Engineer will contribute to the stability, security, and performance of enterprise networks, while gaining experience in advanced network technologies and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Work with senior engineers to implement network changes and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and asset inventories.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation and respond to network incidents.
  • Follow change control and incident response procedures.
  • Assist in the implementation of network security protocols and compliance controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support IT projects and system rollouts.
  • Assist in monitoring and analyzing network performance to ensure reliability and availability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues related to connectivity, latency, and performance.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with common network tools such as Wireshark and SolarWinds.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and grow within the field.
  • Demonstrates excellent teamwork and embodies the virtues of being humble, hungry, and people smart.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and 2+ years of hands-on experience in IT or Network Administration. Including exposure to firewalls, VPN, wireless technologies, and basic network security concepts.
  • [OR] Associate's degree in related field and 4+ years of hands-on experience in IT or Network Administration. Including exposure to firewalls, VPN, wireless technologies, and basic network security concepts.
  • [OR] high school diploma and 6+ years of hands-on experience in IT or Network Administration. Including exposure to firewalls, VPN, wireless technologies, and basic network security concepts.
