Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Manager of Technology Portfolio Management is responsible for leading a team of Lean Agile Portfolio Managers and Analysts. This role provides governance, authority, and oversight for value delivery across the IT & Security and Applications & Analytics technology portfolios. The Manager establishes and leads processes that enable key stakeholder decisions regarding portfolio direction, both directly and through subordinate Portfolio Managers and Analysts.
This position plays a critical role in defining, evaluating, and managing large initiatives and teams, ensuring approved initiatives align with Consumers Energy’s overall business strategy and budgeting guidelines. The Manager is accountable for overseeing portfolio flow, including portfolio events (meetings), artifacts, and performance metrics.
The Manager of Technology Portfolio Management partners closely with IT, Security, Applications & Analytics, and business executive leadership, as well as platform and product delivery leaders (including Product Managers, Engineers, and Architects), to gather insights, report outcomes, and drive actions related to value delivery across the portfolio. This role is also responsible for developing and maintaining portfolio budgets and serving as the liaison between technology portfolios and the corporate financial management group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages a team that partners with key technology stakeholders and architecture leaders to define and analyze business problems, review business cases, develop solutions, and link benefits to technology investments for funding and allocation requests. Evaluates initiative risk profiles and value propositions and tracks feature results against KPIs.
- Leads a team responsible for establishing portfolio KPIs and preparing and maintaining reports that enable value-driven decision-making. Provides insight into portfolio metrics, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement. Oversees the definition of key metrics, outcomes, and objectives for business cases and overall portfolio health, and identifies opportunities to improve the portfolio lifecycle based on initiative results.
- Develops processes and communication standards that ensure stakeholder engagement in the definition, prioritization, and budgeting of large initiatives. Maintains accurate, timely portfolio information to support informed stakeholder decision-making.
- Provides oversight of IT financial modeling and scenario planning. Manages the team responsible for creating and maintaining demand forecasts and matching demand with supply for both internal and external resources. Identifies financial risks, mitigation strategies, and opportunities to optimize spending. Ensures financial outcomes are communicated effectively with IT leadership, business executives, and technology leaders.
- Oversees governance of the technology portfolio at Consumers Energy by managing the flow of large, complex initiatives exceeding $1M through the portfolio process. This includes centralizing portfolio intake, facilitating portfolio events, and governing portfolio operations and investment budgets.
- Coordinates financial forecasting and reporting activities across technology portfolios to ensure timely and accurate financial management. Oversees portfolio demand forecasting and supports the identification and removal of financial management barriers.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages a team responsible for IT&S and Applications & Analytics rate case filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manages a team responsible for IT vendor management activities.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, information technology, business, or a related field, with four (4) or more years of experience in financial management, portfolio management, enterprise or large-scale delivery, program/project management, or product management.
- [OR] Associate degree with six (6) or more years of experience in three or more of the areas listed above.
- [OR] High School Diploma or GED with eight (8) or more years of experience in three or more of the areas listed above.
Preferred Experience
- Four (4) or more years of accounting experience.
Certifications
- Required: PMP or SAFe Lean Agile Portfolio Management certification.
