Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be willing to travel to Jackson when required and must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Manager Real Estate is responsible for managing a team of supervisors and/or professionals within the Real Estate function. The Manager has extensive knowledge of department processes and ensures that project/department milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved budgets. The Manager, Real Estate, plays a critical role in driving the success of real estate projects and initiatives in the areas of land acquisition, project management, project controls, agreements management, transactions, land management, permitting, zoning, land survey, technology, data management and records management. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams and leaders to ensure the successful delivery of projects and contributes to the overall success of the Real Estate function by effectively managing the team's performance and resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively manage, direct, and coordinate, the efforts of internal and contract resources delivering project property rights acquisition and research.
- Strategically align and position the team for success in delivering company work plans.
- Lead and participate in problem solving and standard work creation and review.
- Lead and participate in efforts to leverage digital solutions to streamline work and create efficiencies.
- Align and coordinate with leaders in internal client groups within Real Estate such as Real Estate Services, Asset Management, and Survey.
- Align and coordinate with leaders in external client groups to Real Estate, such as EPM Project Management, Engineering, Design, Planning, Forestry, Construction, and Community Affairs.
- Manage team and supports program budgets, analyzing forecast vs actuals and providing insights to support strategic decision-making to ensure predictability and budget adherence.
- Communicate regularly with cross-functional leaders (typically front-line)in multiple forums including operating reviews and some formal presentations.
- Manage a team (one level) of real estate professionals with oversight across a subset of Real Estate work streams including, but not limited to, real estate governance, asset management, land acquisition, and/or real estate services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders and teams (typically front-line) to deliver on shared objectives.
- Manage operational performance, resources and prioritization of workload across the team.
- Motivate, lead, coach and develop team to deliver on team goals.
- Interface regularly and maintain positive relationships with external customers, vendors and other stakeholders (industry peers, regulators, community officials) as a representative of the Company to effectively execute on department and team strategy and work plans.
- Develop and execute team strategy, goals and priorities in support of multiple work streams.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of Real Estate strategies, concepts, transactions, documents, processes, records,and property rights
- Ability to lead teams in project management, work plan execution and risk management
- Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making including alternatives analysis and business case development
- Knowledge of complex contracts/agreements and other legal documents
- Stakeholder management including negotiations, customer/community engagement and relations, influencing, and conflict management
- Knowledge of culture, talent and performance management including coaching and mentoring

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management or Related Field with 4 years of experience in real estate, land assets; leadership experience.
- [OR] Associate's Degree in Business, Management or Related Field with 6 years of experience in real estate, land assets; leadership experience.
- [OR] High School Diploma with 8 years of experience in real estate, land assets; leadership experience.
