Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to Parnall located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with ESO Operations and Generation Operations to validate and report out on the Customer Value Realized Metric
- Evaluate and report out on the companies Demand Response programs
- Work with ESO Operations to evaluate and optimize MISO energy market strategies utilizing Gentrader, ProMod. and the PCI suite of software
- Work with the ESO Forecasting group to benchmark Consumers Energy forecasting and performance models including GenTrader, ProMod, MetrixIDR, and in house developed software
- Work with the MISO Market Settlements group to evaluate and report out on generation unit performance utilizing the PCI suite of software
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Continued
Specific to this role in Merchant Operations & PSCR
- In support of day ahead and real time merchant Operations, develop energy market purchase and sales tools, products and strategies to reduce price volatility and Power Supply Cost Recovery costs
- Develop tools and guidelines to mitigate cost impacts of planned and unplanned outages
- Develop strategy to optimize how CE bids load into the MISO market
- Build relationships with energy trading entities within MISO and PJM to facilitate short-term transactions
- Subject matter expert in electric transmission offerings and tariff requirements to move power from outside MISO zone 7 and other RTOs
- Understand transmission congestion and consult on transmission impacts of the company’s power supply acquisitions
- Develop strategy to manage congestion costs through Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) or other financial instruments
- Develop ancillary services market offer strategy by unit
- Develop guidelines and process for natural gas hedging
- Monitor and report commodity price trends and forecasts
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of Electric Supply
- Knowledge of demand-side energy programs and resources
- Knowledge of generation technology and operations
- Knowledge of ProMod, GenTrader, MetrixIDR, and the PCI software suite
- Knowledge of MISO energy, capacity, and ancillary services markets and settlements
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in technical or related field with two (2) or more years of experience in data analysis, computer models, and/or energy markets and costs
- [OR] Associate's degree in technical or related field with four (4) or more years of experience in data analysis, computer models, and/or energy markets and costs
- [OR] High School Diploma/GED with six (6) or more years of experience in data analysis, computer models, and/or energy markets and costs
