General Summary

 

The ESO Forecasting Engineer is responsible for developing MISO energy market offer strategies using energy price forecasts, electric load forecasts, generation unit operating parameters, and generation unit outage plans that are developed by the ESO Forecasting Engineer. The engineer will develop forecasts using sophisticated regression and neural network models, advanced excel spreadsheet models, production cost models, and generation unit commitment models. This role will work closely with peers in Generation Planning, Generation Asset Strategy and Generation Operations to understand generation unit operating parameters and outage needs.

 

Job Description/Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain models for short-term forecasts for energy market pricing, electric load, intermittent generation (i.e. wind, solar), and demand response.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain MISO energy and ancillary service market offer strategies that maximize customer value and accommodate generation unit operational restrictions.
  • Coordinate with Generation Planning, Generation Asset Strategy, and Generation Operations to develop optimal outage schedules.
  • Coordinate with Generation Planning and Generation Operations to validate, update, and maintain MISO generation unit offer data.
  • Maintain collection and reporting of weather forecast information.
  • Forecast generation key performance indicators.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of Electric Supply
  • Knowledge of generation technology and operations
  • Knowledge of demand-side energy resources
  • Knowledge of generation outage planning
  • Knowledge of MISO energy, capacity, and ancillary services markets
  • Knowledge of forecasting tools including regression analysis, neural networks models

 

Requirements/Qualifications

 

  • 5 or more years of related exempt work experience as a Technical Analyst Engineering for placement in the Engineering Technical Analyst job family

– OR-

  • 4 or more years of applied ABET exempt engineering working experience and a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional Development placement in the engineering job family

 

Preferred skills:

  • Utility experience
  • Complex modeling experience
  • Strong computer skills, especially Excel
  • Detail oriented

 

Location is Jackson- Parnall -Remote options available

 

Essential Functions:

 

General technical analysis supports the planning, technical analysis, general management, negotiations, transactions, customer services and auditing of a wide variety of technical and business functions and technical processes of specific operating and support areas throughout the company. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, departments and offices. Lead and/or assist with technical support for the plans, reports, impacts, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collection, observation, and field investigation. Provide technical, non-engineering support services with accuracy, on time and under budget. Use computer assisted applications software and equipment to prepare technical support documents. Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard procedures for projects. Become familiar with business and technical plans and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately.  Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective communication skills to answer inquiries from coworkers, clients, or the public.  Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders.  Attend internal and external meetings.  Provide technical support services in a legal and ethical manner.  Regular attendance is expected.
