The Experience Design team influences every corner of Consumers Energy, evangelizing that customer experience is the most important product we deliver. We are integrated into functional areas across the organization, guiding strategies, tactics and measurements to ensure customer experience is at the forefront of everything we do. As a member of the team, you’ll be immersed into a passionate world of experience designers who are responsible for the end-to-end customer experience across a broad range of both existing and emerging products and services that are shaping the industry.

The Role

In this role, you’ll be the “go to” qualitative insight expert for the company. While embedded with a team of like-minded design thinkers, you will enjoy great collaboration with research and analytics colleagues that bring a wealth of quantitative data to our fingertips. You’ll insert variety into your day by guiding the Experience Design team on design research, testing approaches, personas and user stories, but it’s your passion for analyzing and translating user insights and mixed research data into structured and consumable artifacts that will get everyone’s attention. To top it off, your skills and thought leadership will be instrumental to this team by making certain techniques for identifying and prioritizing experience design improvements are following best practices and that our standards of work are nothing short of world-class.

Customer Experience Data Scientist must be:

  • Highly experienced with mixed research methods and able to deepen team understanding of customer experiences, pain points, needs and behaviors
  • Passionate about qualitative data analysis with a passion for synthesizing insights into compelling artifacts that build empathy with cross-functional teams, identify opportunities and help prioritize experience improvement initiatives
  • A storyteller, comfortable presenting methodologies, insights and recommendations to peers and executives alike
  • An advisor for customer experience metrics to help gather meaningful insights and measure implementation success
  • A steward to others who believes in collaboration, enjoys helping others learn and can help construct/enhance systems and standards

 Required Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated team player with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with, and ability to continue learning, standard industry design tools
  • Degree: Masters degree, or equivalent experience, required;
  • Position Title:  Qualitative Insights Manager
  • Ability to work effectively in remote or hybrid work environment:
    • Remote: Preferably in Michigan, but not required. Some states are ineligible due to regulatory and tax implications.
    • In Person (as health/safety protocols allow): Occasional presence at Jackson, Michigan Innovation Center may be required;  25+ Michigan locations are available for use at employee discretion.
