We are looking for:

The Director, Strategy and Corporate Development will support the Strategy team in identifying and executing organic and inorganic initiatives across the company's portfolio. This role will partner with Strategy function and business units to identify and recommend preferred path to execute the company's strategy ("where to play" and "how to win"). Furthermore, the role will manage and provide support for key phases of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), investments, joint ventures, and divestitures for CMS Energy. This person will lead complicated discussions with the senior management team and manage teams of VPs, EDs, and other senior level people. They also will need to be a world class problem solver with advanced skills in problem definition, issue tree creation, analysis development, data sufficiency logic, and written/oral communication

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to One Energy Plaza in Jackson, MI with home office flexibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, or other related field required
  • 6+ years expereince at an investment bank, corporate development, or strategy consulting firm with a focus on M&A and deals/transactions
     

Preferred skills:

  • Masters of Business Administration Degree

 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and lead growth initiatives: conduct research on market segments and trends to identify optimal path to participating in priority markets through both organic and inorganic pathways
  • Perform financial analysis: create comprehensive pro-forma financial models, valuation analyses, and synergy models in support of potential transactions
  • Lead target screening: maintain acquisition targets, growth drivers, and integration theses; manage pipeline of potential investments including financial attractiveness, geographical footprint, products, landscape, capabilities, and risks
  • Lead teams in completing work & analysis: decide on the fact gathering and analysis to resolve the issues, while avoiding cognitive biases; some problems don’t need complex analysis, others require more complex tools; decide on the right tools for the team to use in different situations
  • Synthesize findings and develop recommendations: synthesize the findings to highlight insights; findings have to be assembled into a logical structure to test validity and then synthesized in a way that convinces others that you have a good solution
  • Develop compelling communications (oral and written): determine how best to communicate information in a compelling way; storyline needs to be developed that links the solution back to the original problem; importantly, it needs to be told in a way that the audience understands and is made relevant to them in order to move them to action and create impact
