Location: This position is onsite at Parnall located in Jackson, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Associate Merchant Operations Controller directs Consumers Energy resources to satisfy Consumers Energy obligations maximizing return on company generation assets. Working a 24/7 rotating shift, this position is directly adjusting the generation resources plan and compliance with all NERC and Regulatory Requirements. The Associate Merchant Operations Controller is also responsible for supporting the evaluations of decisions made as it pertains to scheduled outages and additional unit performances which both have financial impacts to the energy and capacity markets. This position must be NERC Certified and is the Balancing Authority for Consumers Energy Electric Supply with the authority to take all actions to ensure reliable and economic operation of the Bulk Electric System including firm load shed if necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • React and adjust energy sourcing plans based on sudden changes to the system and market conditions
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable NERC Standards
  • Make complex financial decisions on shift with moderate guidance
  • Manage intermittent generation real-time requests and alarms
  • Assist in Company’s response to Emergency situations and associated NERC Standards (EOP-004, EOP-008 and EOP-011)
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Real Time operational systems (SCADA,OSI, PCI, OATI, CROW)
  • In-depth knowledge of utility/MISO market practices and procedures
  • Ability to interact with internal and external clients to give and receive moderate to complex information
  • Ability & skill to solve a range of complex problems and analysis

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or business-related field 
    • [OR] Associate's degree in a technical or business-related field with two (2) or more years of experience at or interacting with generating facilities, ability to analyze and evaluate economic situations, experience interfacing with the MISO Market and experience in a control room environment or dispatch center as well as experience with Microsoft Office and database management
    • [OR] High school diploma/GED with four (4) or more years of experience at or interacting with generating facilities, ability to analyze and evaluate economic situations, experience interfacing with the MISO Market and experience in a control room environment or dispatch center as well as experience with Microsoft Office and database management

Certifications

  • NERC Certification (Must be obtained within one year of hire)
