Location: The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to any Consumers Energy Service Center every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

 

The Electric Services Supervisor work involves planning, organizing, directing, and controlling in areas such as quality systems, safety and construction compliance, site readiness inspections, customer interfaces, storm management, and policy & procedure applications. Initiates and leads project initiatives or change implementation efforts to improve results. Direct responsibility for contractual oversight, including reconciliation of pay items. Involves management and inspection of contract work to include interfaces with other utilities or agencies, approving switching and tagging orders related to work performed by non-company crews and field verification of work completion to contract specifications. May lead up to 15 crews in routine and non-routine work performed on Consumers Energy's HVD system. Leaders can perform effectively and efficiently in routine and non-routine/emergency situations with minimal guidance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the scope, schedule and cost of construction projects; apply thorough understanding of policy coupled with leadership skills to resolve process and construction barriers
  • Resolve internal/external customer concerns to final resolution. This includes property restoration, MPSC complaints and addressing concerns over access and easement rights
  • Manage and monitor work performed by non-company crews, including management of contractual items, (i.e. time sheets, invoice approval, SAP management, entering TOA outage requests for scheduling, unitizing of work, redline and records accuracy). Set up and facilitate pre-bid and pre-construction meetings for large infrastructure improvement projects (Rebuilds, Re-has & 3rd party developers). Provide planning, direction, regulatory compliance and oversight to assure completion of work in a safe and cost effective manner
  • Conduct regular safety meetings with contractor crews, site safety visits and investigate and complete necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintain records, prepare and submit required reports for appropriate agencies
  • Lead storm restoration efforts with non-company crews, including using PDM's, line patrol, work order management, operating switching and tagging, taking clearances, 3-way communication and capital work identification
  • Responsible for work plan adherence, adjustments to work plan (resources, equipment, materials, etc.), backlog management, along with associated coordination with internal stakeholders (Planning and Scheduling, Supply Chain, Engineering HVD & LVD, System Control Centers, CEM, Corporate Safety, Union Safety, Community Affairs, Public Safety, Economic Development, Public Relations, Corporate Account Management, etc.) External Stakeholders (Contractor Company Leadership, Contractor Crews, etc.) and External Customers (commercial, industrial and municipal). Participate in Daily Operating Reviews, Cross Functional Weekly Operating Reviews. HVD Line Supervisors also coordinate work with Substation Construction, Substation Maintenance, Electric Field Lab and Substation Operations. This includes b

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • Knowledge/Understanding and application of planning and scheduling process (TOA & SAP).
  • Skilled in negotiating and conflict resolution with internal and external clients
  • Applies understanding of policy coupled with leadership skills to resolve process and employee issues
  • Emergent/unplanned service restoration to both HVD and LVD system. Understanding of grid infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and application of work methods, work processes, and related technology in the field of Electric Operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies and applications.
  • Knowledge and application of contract management practices.
  • Skilled in relating to union employees and leadership
  • Skill in transfer of knowledge and employee development

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technical or related with 4 years of basic knowledge/understanding of Safety Culture, safety management systems, change management efforts in a challenging environment. Basic understanding of work/construction methods of electric/gas/water/utility systems and applicable standards/laws pertaining to the operation of utility infrastructure. First-hand experience leading teams, building relationships and business acumen. A leader in this role is expected to obtain a Distribution Switching and Tagging Authority certification within 120 days of hire

 

  • [OR] Associate's Degree in Business, Technical or related with 6 years of basic knowledge/understanding of Safety Culture, safety management systems, change management efforts in a challenging environment. Basic understanding of work/construction methods of electric/gas/water/utility systems and applicable standards/laws pertaining to the operation of utility infrastructure.
