This is an onsite position assigned to the Karn-Weadock Administrative Building located in Essexville, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).  

 

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

 

The Manager of Engineering Support is responsible for supervising the engineering support team and ensuring their work aligns with company goals and objectives. This role serves as the primary liaison between the engineering support team and other engineering teams, providing regular project status updates and maintaining alignment on key details. The Manager collaborates with other Engineering Support Managers to develop and implement new processes and procedures within the engineering department. Responsibilities include creating training programs for new hires, updating existing training materials, and establishing systems for tracking projects and tasks. The Manager oversees a team that may include engineering technicians, technical analysts, and engineers assigned to specific projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures timely completion of state, federal, and local environmental reporting requirements.
  • Directs immediate responses to incidents such as fires, injuries, and chemical spills, and conducts accident/incident investigations.
  • Provides technical support for environmental remediation and litigation projects, including remediation system design and determination of regulatory applicability.
  • Administers environmental safety and pollution prevention programs in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and labor union requirements and agreements.
  • Directs operations and maintenance personnel to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation while complying with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains all applicable site safety and environmental plans and programs.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations regarding air use, water use, waste disposal, and spill management.
  • Monitors progress of environmental improvement programs and conducts required safety and environmental training. Assists with maintaining Continuous Monitoring System (CMS) equipment and trains others in its use.
  • Reviews environmental studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes, and permits, coordinating with business leaders.
  • Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies.
  • Remain up to date on emerging technologies and advancements within the engineering sector to ensure the company maintains a leading position in the industry.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior management, shareholders, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Investigate the root causes of customer complaints and product failures and develop effective corrective action plans to prevent recurrence. Identify and implement process improvements to increase quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and approve project proposals, plans, and designs to verify feasibility and ensure alignment with customer requirements and company standards.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of employees involved in the design, development, testing, and production of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software components, systems, and products.
  • Ensure all engineering support activities comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers, partners, and suppliers. Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering technicians, technical analysts, and support staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the engineering support team in your designated area for assigned projects, programs, and products. Oversee all aspects of assigned engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and technical performance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of industry standards and codes—including MPSC, NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE, and all other relevant codes—as they apply to the Company’s electric system.

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with a minimum of four (4) years of experience with successful delivery of engineering technical analyst projects.
  • (OR) Associate’s degree in a technical field with a minimum of six (6) years of experience with successful delivery of engineering technical analyst projects.
  • (OR) High school diploma with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience with successful delivery of engineering technical analyst projects.
