The Sr Electric Energy Commodities Trader is responsible for buying/selling, researching, and transaction operations for energy commodities in ISO and over-the counter markets.  They will market and sell energy products by monitoring market movements and trading environment; analyzing economic, industry, and company data; developing quantitative research models and tools; and executing financial trade transactions and managing post-trade processing. The Sr Energy Commodities Trader will develop and implement procurement plans and strategies by researching micro and macro fundamentals related to energy commodities.  They will also purchase commodities in accordance with approved buying programs, using trade judgment in implementation and/or the established procurement policy.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generate commodity market reports for management and forecast market trends
  • Maintains rapport with key accounts by making periodic visits; exploring specific needs; anticipating new opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains Day Ahead and Real Time offers and bids in ISO markets
  • Develops and manages portfolio of electric products, including energy, capacity, ancillary service, transmission, and other products
  • Attends market meetings and communicates with market regulators to ensure compliance with existing emerging regulations and structural market changes
  • Serves as a liaison for third parties and managers on client inquiries related to the commodity market.
  • Reviews analytical reports and forecasts commodity market trends.
  • Identifies investment opportunities within the electric commodity markets
  • Tracks product line sales and costs by analyzing and entering sales, expense, and new business data.
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of marketing principles, such as web advertising, performance, and direct response marketing.    
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.    
  • Ability to convey complex information to non-technical audiences.    
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.    
  • Proficiency in computer programs, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and publishing applications.    
  • Knowledge of Electric Power operating models.    
  • Knowledge of hedging and trading techniques for ERCOT    
  • Understanding of physical and financial products for executing trading strategies and hedging    
  • Knowledge of RECs and other environmental attributes    

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Required
  • 5+ years trading experience required
  • EROCT and/or PJM market trading experience preferred
