Location: This position is onsite at the Ray Compressor Station located in Armada, Michigan. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Compression Technician provides support and maintenance for the Natural Gas Compression, Gas transmission, Distribution, Storage, and Commercial & Industrial systems. The Senior Compression Technician is responsible for the high-level technical support for a wide variety of communication systems, functional controls, instrumentation, and measurement components integrated into a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. They will follow all CE safety standards including completing safety tailboards and JSA's and have knowledge of national electrical code and requirements for installations in hazardous environments The Senior Compression Technician will have cross functional knowledge and ability to support multiple locations across the state. They will perform installs, maintains and troubleshoots electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment for gas compression, gas distribution and transmission storage and pipeline systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to effectively support project teams: document knowledge transfer to aid in succession planning process; embracing and coaching of new employees; practice good time management and planning.
- Analyze, diagnose, design tests, and provide a recommended solution by means of troubleshooting
- Consult with vendors, manufactures, contractors, operators, engineering & other SME's to provide technical expertise on higher complex issues. Technicians to review and interpret drawings, vendor manuals, and procedures for the purposes of installing, troubleshooting, & maintaining equipment
- Operate and analyze natural gas processes, control systems, hardwired systems and end devices along with providing programming expertise required to maintain a typical compressor station, transmission valve site, distribution metering system
- Operate and maintain electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties
- Plan, perform, and document periodic MGSS (Michigan Gas Safety Standards) Code Work orders; complete SOX (Witnessing) Inspections, along with performing required complex testing in accordance with maintenance programs within Gas Operations to maintain compliance with MPSC regulations
- Responsible for job planning, drawing reviews, making design decisions, completion of required systems documentation, perform system checkout functions, lead point to point verification and provide technical assistance as required to support the completion of construction projects while functioning alone or while leading project teams
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Gas Compression, Metering & Regulation, Distribution, Transmission, & Storage Fields
- Knowledge of national electrical code & AGA standards
- Knowledge of RTU (IPM, I/O cards, etc.). Network communications- ethernet, RS485, modbus, cell modems, fiber optic
- Knowledge required to analyze and troubleshoot complex natural gas processes, control systems, hardwired systems, & end devices
- Knowledge required to operate and maintain electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties
- Maintain Operator qualifications for the role
- Mechanical Aptitude. Compressed Air System, heater and boil, and valve and actuator repair experience
- PLC/DCS Ladder logic computer programming experience. HMI graphics programming experience
- Proficient with SAP and MS Office programs
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree in a scientific or technical field with four (4) or more years of experience with PLC/DCS Ladder logic computer programming, HMI graphics programming, Compressed Air Systems, heater & boiler repair, valve & actuator repair, Gas Compression, Metering & Regulation, Distribution, Transmission, and Storage Field
- (OR) High School diploma/GED with six (6) or more years of experience with PLC/DCS Ladder logic computer programming, HMI graphics programming, Compressed Air Systems, heater & boiler repair, valve & actuator repair, Gas Compression, Metering & Regulation, Distribution, Transmission, and Storage Field
