General Summary of Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic Project Management leader to oversee a multi-disciplinary project team of professionals dedicated to delivering capital infrastructure projects for Consumers Energy’s Generation Supply business unit. Projects will involve full life cycle of constructing a natural gas plant as well as coordinating ancillary projects for natural gas and electric distribution connections. The ideal candidate will bring prior experience managing complex gas infrastructure projects, solid understanding of project management methodologies and demonstrate a strong ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

The Principal Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Project Manager is responsible for developing and executing the strategic project management approach for the construction of a natural gas plant. This role oversees the establishment and tracking of performance metrics and ensures the successful delivery of all aspects of this large scale, complex project. The position holds accountability for project management processes, controls, quality assurance, construction management, and adherence to close-out standards. A key aspect of this role is fostering executive stakeholder trust and collaboration both across the enterprise and with external partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides coaching, mentoring, technical expertise, and guidance to cross-functional project teams, effectively motivating team members to take ownership of assigned tasks.
Develops and manages comprehensive project KPIs and execution metrics. Conducts data analytics and trend analysis, deploying problem-solving methodologies to ensure consistent performance and process compliance.
Designs and implements appropriate visual management strategies and facilitates operating reviews.
Establishes and oversees complex project procurement strategies and contracts, including negotiations with contractors and customers, contract execution management, and the mitigation of financial risks to maximize operational and financial outcomes.
Identifies and manages project schedules, dependencies, and critical paths using advanced scheduling tools and methodologies such as predecessor activities, resource-loaded schedules, and float analysis. Ensures timely updates and sufficient detail for tracking progress and communicating with project teams and stakeholders.
Recommends and introduces new cross-functional processes, techniques, and standards that drive continuous improvement and resolve existing project challenges.
Manages large project teams and contractors, ensuring effective resource allocation and completion of planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases for utility projects. Ensures compliance with technical specifications, permitting, regulatory, engineering, and environmental standards and procedures.
Demonstrate strong technical acumen in engineering, construction management, and quality assurance methodologies for complex designs. Leads resolution of technical, construction, or quality issues and establishes risk mitigation strategies to optimize project constraints and minimize execution risks.
Prepares monthly, annual, and overall project forecasts for major board-level projects and programs, providing ongoing cost reconciliation and ensuring adherence to established budgets.
Leads and manages all communications related to project updates, overviews, and issue resolution for key stakeholders, including project teams, executive leadership, regulatory agencies, commercial and strategic clients, and community leaders. Manages agreement negotiations and prepares and presents detailed project progress reports and issue resolution documentation.
Assumes responsibility for the planning, governance, and execution of projects from inception to closeout, applying project management methodologies to achieve objectives in scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and performance for large, complex engineering and construction projects.

The Grayling Generating Station plant is a 38 MW biomass-fueled renewable energy power plant that produces electricity. The fuel consists primarily of bark and sawdust from local lumber mills and the non-marketable biomass from lumbering operations.  The power produced supports the health of the forests, mitigates greenhouse gases (is “carbon neutral”), conserves landfill space and supports the electric grid in northern Michigan.  The electric output is sold pursuant to a long-term power purchase agreement with Consumers Energy Company. This facility can produce enough electricity to power approximately 38,000 homes. Commercial operation began in 1992.

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Manager to lead all maintenance activities for our power plant operations. In this role, you will oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance. As a key member of the leadership team, you will guide maintenance personnel, support hiring and development, and drive continuous improvement across the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Operations

Establish and manage preventative maintenance programs and schedules.
Oversee the repair and upkeep of electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation/control systems.
Coordinate emergency repairs and ensure timely completion of permanent solutions.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and work documentation.
Recommend equipment upgrades and improvements.

Leadership & Team Development

Prin Industrial Engineer (LIVONIA, MI, US)

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Principal Industrial Engineer is a specialist for larger and complex projects that will create, develop, and implement efficient utility and/or manufacturing systems, reducing costs while maintaining standards of operations. The incumbent will develop and lead studies on the processes used by various Consumers departments and external industry practices to identify ways to streamline production processes and improve overall efficiencies and quality while reducing costs using lean principals. Responsible for conducting complex time studies, analyzing data, and developing process improvement plans. Oversee the work of lower level engineers and technician on large projects and develop training and coaching programs for employees on lean methodology, new processes and procedures to increase productivity and quality while reducing waste and costs.

The Dearborn Industrial Generation (DIG) is a combined natural gas and blast furnace gas fueled power plant located in Dearborn, Michigan adjacent to the Ford Rouge industrial complex. The plant is comprised of one simple cycle gas turbine, two high-efficiency natural gas combined cycle units with heat recovery steam generators, three blast furnace gas/natural gas boilers and one steam turbine. The Hydro Operator will be responsible for:

Hydro Plant & Auxiliary Equipment Operation

Starting, placing in service, shutting down, and testing hydro units and associated auxiliary equipment.
Maintaining frequency and voltage when operating isolated from the electric system.

Substation Switching & Tagging

Performing high- and low‑voltage substation switching and tagging on transmission and subtransmission lines, transformer banks, distribution circuits, and station power systems.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing new and existing project requests. The incumbent ensures the schedule, budget, and project details are managed effectively, and that tasks are well organized. A working knowledge of relevant project systems and programs is required. The Project Coordinator must efficiently prioritize and organize projects of varying sizes to meet customer needs, primarily by gathering customer work scopes and overseeing the project from initiation through design, scheduling, and field construction phases, driven by the customer’s required timeline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain a storm role and assist with emergency operations and storm restoration as needed.
Participate in departmental problem-solving and waste elimination work.
Assist with maintaining departmental standard work.
Represent the department in cross-functional meetings.
Ensure communication and updates are provided to customers on a regular basis.
Monitor and respond to inquiries from various business partners.
May be responsible for design, depending on geographic location, workload, and available design resources.
Prioritize workload to successfully complete projects and meet customer commitments.
Determine project scope and evaluate design requirements and system impacts.
Coordinate project work, including estimates of customer and system loads, generate tasks for other departments, provide cost estimates, identify required permits, and schedule work orders.
Serve as the primary contact with customers to coordinate assigned CMS Energy Utility projects.
Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Understanding of relevant rules, laws, and regulations pertaining to departmental functions.
Knowledge and understanding of Consumers Energy electric tariffs.
Knowledge of SAP notifications and billing.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in technical, scientific or business-related field with a minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting project work.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Supplier Quality Analyst is one of the leading Supplier Quality and Performance subject matter experts. As such, they are responsible to support our internal stakeholders and supply base in the identification, development, documentation and implementation of best practices aligned to achieve zero defects to Operations. The specific day to day focus is on the execution of the First Part Approval Process, non-conformance identification and resolution, CAPA delivery and the resulting supplier performance scorecard. Those in this role will give input into the metrics and leading indicators to measure performance of the group. They will also support supplier qualification and development related to bid events, corrective actions, waste elimination and continuous improvement.

The Senior Supplier Quality Analyst will collaborate on designing and implementing departmental initiatives and solutions that support the entire CE organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recommend appropriate metrics and dashboards to communicate the health of the Supplier Quality systems, supporting both internal and external operating review structures.
Contribute to and execute plans and processes to drive Supplier Quality and Supply Chain deliverables. Achieve process excellence by staying current with industry trends and best practices.
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Sourcing to ensure appropriate technical specifications and requirements are utilized and adhered to.
Participate in cross-functional team problem solving, which may include statistical analysis, process variation, process mapping, and other problem-solving tools to address root causes.
Lead Supplier Quality processes such as First Part Approval, non-conformance entry and resolution, CAPA, supplier performance scorecard, and supplier performance management.
Participate in Supplier Qualification, Development, audits, and performance feedback during the bid evaluation process.
Develop processes and procedures to support continuous improvement.
Work with Operations, Engineering, and the supply base to analyze field failures and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Principal EPC Project Manager - NorthStar Clean Energy (Ann Arbor, MI, US)

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for leading project teams in the planning, design, execution and commissioning of the company’s utility scale renewable energy facilities. The PM will oversee, coordinate, perform and track the planning, implementing, quality control, and status reporting on a given project. This position manages the project team, which typically consists of matrixed roles from all the areas of the organization as well as heavy reliance on outside consultants, engineering firms, and construction firms. The EPC Project Manager is responsible for working with stakeholders to define the project scope; preparing the project schedule, and updating that schedule as it evolves; proposing the project budget, and then managing the project cost and schedule; making sure the project team has the supplies and human resources necessary to get the project done on time and on budget; identifying and minimizing potential risks to the project timeline and budget; making sure that all project team members understand what their responsibilities are; communicating the project's progression to management; and ensuring the quality of the team's work and any supplies or materials used by the team.

The Project Manager will:

Plan and manage utility scale renewable energy projects (and other projects as necessary) of high complexity, multi-year projects valued at over $100 million.
Prepare Project Charter documents, Project Management Plans, Scoping Documents, Risk Registers, and other project management deliverables through the project lifecycle.
Organize, lead, and document Project team meetings to coordinate, update, and hold team members accountable for project responsibilities.
Manage projects to achieve overall financial and commercial success in meeting the company’s business goals.
Meet agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives.
Develop project schedules including schedule concepts, constraints, items in appropriate level of detail, track schedule process, update items with project scheduler, and communicate schedule to project team. The Project Manager is will utilize Microsoft Project individually as well as working with a scheduler depending on stage of the project lifecycle.
Provide clear and accurate communications to project stakeholders.
Develop and maintain project plans that provide timely deliverables to achieve project objectives.
Identify initial risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution.
Work collaboratively with other functional areas in the development of project tasks and deliverables ensuring the successful execution of projects.
Manage multiple projects at various stages of development concurrently.
Perform as liaison to coordinate effective communications, discussions, and negotiations between NSCE and third parties (both private and governmental and host landowners).
Develop project execution plans for various complex project types and business arrangements, including Engineering-Procure-Construct, Build-Own-Operate, etc.
Develop and perform presentations for the NSCE leadership team.
Validate financial forecasts and provides on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures.
Provide ethical leadership within NSCE Code of Conduct.
Assist in the development of performance metrics and track performance of each project.
Identify and recommend new processes, techniques and standards that drive performance and process improvement.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university is required.
7+ years of experience in applied engineering or equivalent working experience, including project management, is required.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
