The Sr. Gas Asset Consultant is eligible for remote work or can be based in any of our Michigan locations.  Travel may be required to support various training, projects and/or department meetings (approximately 10%).




The Sr. Gas Asset Consultant will provide direct assistance to the members of Gas Strategy.  They will perform benefit-cost analysis, maintain Long Term Financial Plans within the Business Planning System and gather data together to create models, reports and graphs needed for the Natural Gas Delivery Plan and regulatory rate cases.  This individual will be well versed in the typical Microsoft-based applications, along with Power BI, SharePoint, and any other software applications that are needed to execute the work.  They will have good communication skills, both oral and written as they will also be forward facing to our internal customers.


  • Supporting Asset Strategy Managers in developing and integrating processes to ensure that resources are optimized to support the corporate business plan. When emergent (in year) changes are needed, assist in development of mitigation strategies to reduce operational risk while optimizing customer value. This also includes supporting the development of various models with the ability to challenge input assumptions and test sensitivities.
  • Support the development of cost-benefit models to meet the overall company goals by supporting complex project payback evaluation (NPV, IRR) analysis and have the ability to challenge input assumptions and test various scenarios and sensitivities.
  • Supporting the development of Long-Term Financial Plan and related Scenarios to support the creation and updating of the Natural Gas Delivery Plan.
  • Supports the necessary regulatory requirements of various rate case, and other regulatory filings, as a company witness and/or witness support, in order to obtain financial recovery of the programs and projects necessary to achieve the strategic objectives, goals, and outcomes.
  • Utilizes data to provide support for strategy formulation, business development, and forecasting. Drives critical business insights by gathering, reviewing, and testing data, applying several measures to provide solutions to key business decisions.
  • Gas Strategy SharePoint site owner, Gas Strategy Teams coordinator, construct workflow charts, diagrams, document support (BI, Tableau), manage action items log/planner tasks, monitor workstream progress by tracking activity and updating Operating Review meetings slide decks.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly reviews and analysis of current processes using operational metrics and reports to conduct insightful, ad hoc analysis to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues.




To be considered for the Sr. Gas Asset Consultant role candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance or Business or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of ten (10) or more years of utility or energy experience in either project management, project controls, finance, and/or gas and electric engineering (If no degree, 18 years of experience required)
  • MS Excel and navigating various database applications and web-based applications (Power BI, SharePoint, BPS or similar)
  • Knowledge and application of economic decision-making concepts and principles for business cases using various accounting and system analysis tools




  • Master’s degree in Organizational and Business Management
  • Experience specific to Gas Transmission or Gas Distribution systems
  • Knowledge of the design, construction or operation of gas systems and equipment
  • Experience in plant engineering, plant operations, plant maintenance, or outage execution
  • Strong leadership, collaboration and communication skills            
  • Innovative thinker and problem-solver  
  • Regulatory and legislative knowledge for rate case design and execution
  • Critical thinker with experience in data analytics and information systems             
  • Knowledge of utility regulatory process and framework preferred                            
  • Ability and desire to challenge the status quo     
  • Knowledge of LEAN principles and application of LEAN tools




This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week, and overtime as needed. Time will be spent in the office, headquarters or specific field locations. This position will require the ability to travel between field locations. This position may include nights and weekend/holiday timeframes.
