Department Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the E I&C Control Progams and associated hardware that control both station equipment and controls the overal operation of compressor station . This group's responsibility will encompass all 8 compressor stations across the State of Michigan. This group will support gas compression operations and other engineering groups during project design and execution as well as on-going and emergent maintenance.


Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead with operations in diagnosing trouble shooting equipment issues along with developing repair strategies and procedures. Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Support capital projects in gas processing equipment and compressor station operations, developing specifications and scopes as well as execution of the project.
  • Develop standards and specifications for compressor station electrical equipment and controls.


Other Responsibilities Include but are no limited to:

  • Develop and implement solutions to operating and maintenance problems associated with controls for both station and equipment.
  • Provide project support.
  • Determine the root cause of failures and provide solutions.
  • Interface with operations staff in the support of equipment and operating controls modifications.
  • Manage engineering contractors used in hardware and programming modifications.
  • Review engineering contractor's drawings, logic, and specifications.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications and construction specifications in support of panel, equipment, and station modifications.
  • Specify bids and prepare bid evaluations for equipment and services.
  • Interface with supply chain to provide technical guidance for the procurement of material and services.
  • Work with technicians to trouble shoot and optimize control systems.
  • Support other engineering activities as needed.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited institution is required with Professional Engineering License preferred.

  • 5 - 7 or more years of related exempt work experience in the applicable field.


Essential Functions

  • Planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric and Gas Distribution and Electric Generation systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations.
  • Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices.
  • Individual possesses the skills lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. 
  • Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company’s compliance standards. 
  • Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation. 
  • Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget.
  • Use computer assisted engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. 
  • Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects.
  • Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. 
  • Assists in client contact and communication. 
  • Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. 
  • Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders.
  • Attend internal and external meetings. 
  • Provide all engineering services in a legal and ethical manner. Resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Serve as onsite project representative. 
  • Reviews operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents. 
  • Regular attendance is expected.


Hours and Travel

  • This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 85% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
  • Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. 
  • Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities.
  • Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential storms.
  • Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays Individuals must have a valid driver’s license.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The noise level on the construction site is often loud.  Individual must have the ability to work up to 16 continuous hrs during emergent work.
